    Organised in collaboration with the Tate, London Calling explores the historical significance of six major artists, who knew each other well, and who worked prolifically in the Big Smoke, from the s to the s: Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, Leon Kossoff, Michael Andrews, Frank Auerbach, and R.B. : Charlotte Jansen. Lucian Michael Freud (/ən ˈfrɔɪd/; 8 December – 20 July ) was a British painter and draftsman, specialising in figurative art, and is known as one of the foremost 20th-century British portraitists. He was born in Berlin, the son of a Jewish architect and the grandson of Sigmund Freud. His family moved to Britain in to escape the rise of Nazism.
